Breaking added to the line up !

After integrating a breakdance show (Breaking) into its opening night two years ago, FISE Montpellier has maintained a close relationship with the French Dance Federation (FFD). The result? Breaking competitions will be part of FISE Montpellier 2019. This collaboration is in conjunction with the World Dance Sport Federation (WDSF) which sanctions the discipline at international level.

WDSF has already worked with FISE organising contests at the Hiroshima stage in 2018 and 2019. Indeed, the first stage of the season hosted competitions which were part of the World Open Series and provided the chance of winning a place at the World Championships in Nanjing (China) on 23 June 2019. This opportunity is renewed at FISE Montpellier, which will organise contests on Wednesday and Thursday in partnership with FFD and WDSF.

After its highly acclaimed introduction at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Breaking continues its evolution and is now part of a selection of sports that could be integrated in the Paris 2024 Olympics. FISE Montpellier is the last international event where Breaking will be presented before the International Olympic Committee (IOC) begin their deliberation on its possible inclusion in the Games.

With a strong urban culture, the Breaking community brings together the values of free expression, pushing one’s limits, respect for others, and the physical fulfilment found in all other FISE disciplines. Like these, Breaking is about individual passion. It’s always practised in a group, from which comes the notion of each dancer pushing their personal limits. The creativity, flow and artistic performance that the discipline encompasses fully justify its integration into the Festival.
