Art and Fise - Otek and Tacos interview

Where do you come from ?

Otek : « I come from the parisian suburbs »

Tacos : « I come from Grasse, I live in Paris and I'm the son of a Chinese expatriate. »

Why these two names, Otek et Tacos ?

Otek : « Actually I've had a few names, so I just found middle ground between all, especially with the letters adjustment »

Tacos : « When I was 12, I had a spanish buddy and I had fun calling him with mexican food names. Also I find three letters only to be a bit short, four letters it's too symetrical, but five it's good. »

What are the specificities of your creations ?

Otek : « I like the rendering of a complete graffiti, but I give importance to the letter, I make sure each of them is correctly represented. 

Tacos : « I like the straight strokes, square and geometrical »

What's leading you to that wall painting ?

Otek : « Tacos being the son of a chinese expatriate, we went into chinese art, incorporating our styles. We met four months ago, we bring a lot to each other, for example Tacos is in a school so he brings me all kinds of tips. »

Tacos : « We found a common background, a base, a thematic, then we improvised quite a bit ! »

What do you think of street art at the FISE ? The association of extreme sports and urban culture ?

Otek : « The association is so cool and tight, a lot of people ride BMX or skate and make graff as well. It's interesting to show the different styles (north of France or south) on an event in Montpellier, so people can discover new things. »

Tacos : « The association is interesting and gives the chance to people who don't know graffiti to see more of it, with artists coming from all over France. As for suggestions, it would be nice to have this kind of association in a maximum number of events, because it's equally interesting for the graffiti artists and the festival. »

Tacos : « Follow me on my Facebook "TPCLAN" and Instagram "tacosone". It's a bit difficult for me to take part in events with my studies (I'm in a graphic design school). It was a good timing with the FISE being over a week-end of 5 days ! »
