BRETT RHEEDER, BEST RIDER AMONG FEW OTHERS
He is one of the top guns of the circuit, leader of the FMB tour and visiting FISE Edmonton as a friendly neigborhood. After an impressive semi-final, the Crank winner Brett Rheeder takes some time to answer a fews questions.
Nice to see you again on a FISE event Brett, what have you been up to ?
This year and last year, the diamond contests have been my focus. Doing these big contests is a lot of pressure and a lot to handle so I had to limitate some of the contests I was doing, but since this FISE is happening in Canada it was a no brainer to come. I should be on my downhill bike preparing for Redbull Rampage coming in 3 weeks but I figured out it was nice to be a part of the gathering.
Tell me what did it mean to win the Redbull Joyride in Whistler ?
A lot of people ask me : « What do you want to achieve in your career » ?
And I won Xgames Munich in 2013, the one and only Xgames Slopestyle, it was a huge win for me because I was a new guy in the MTB scene, it kinda established me in Slopestyle. The next objective for me was to win the Redbull Joyride and yeah, finally after 5 years of riding that contest I was finally able to take home the win. I think that one goes down on the top list of contests wins.
So you are happy and confident at the moment ?
Yeah I mean, since Joyride I have been relaxing, helping at my house, riding in BC and now I am here in Edmonton, I am cool, I am not concerned or angry for the win, but I always try my best. FMB is not my priority anymore, it was for the past years, I came close but now I am not worrying about it anymore. It’s a lot to process, it’s not that important for me.
How is life in BC ?
I am buidling a house, it’s not ready yet so I am just flowing around sleeping on people couches waiting for my house to be done. Regarding the spots, there is Silver Star bike park nearby and I have 5 acres of land to build and dig my own course, this will be ready in spring. But for now I am riding the mountain and will go to Utah, maybe go back to Joyride 150 where I started riding.
