Travelling to Edmonton for the FISE experience? Wondering what else to do while you’re there?
Although you’ll be waiting for the Louise McKinney Park festival gates to open, we want to make sure you know what else is on offer in the Big E…
Fill up on sport
Edmonton isn’t home only to the FISE World Series! If you fancy watching a fight with some hockey thrown in, then grab a ticket to see the Edmonton Oilers. They’re one of the World Hockey Association’s 12 founding franchises … and they’ve won the Stanley Cup five times.
Another festival?
K-Days is one of the biggest and best annual summer festivals in Canada – and it’s happening just a few days after FISE (20 – 29 July). There’s something for everyone: great music, fun events, delicious food. Definitely worth sticking around for!
Go green
Edmonton’s public parks provide ideal spots for that post-FISE hang. Find a corner and tuck yourself away in William Hawrelak Park or go for a scenic stroll in Mill Creek Ravine Park. Both offer a bit of respite from the busy city and you’ll be sure to find some FISE staff under a tree somewhere!
Retail therapy
West Edmonton Mall is no joke: the largest shopping mall in North America ( 23rd largest in the world!), it covers an area of 5,300,000 square feet and houses 800+ stores, 100+ dining venues and 2 hotels.
Bring your CamelBak for this one – a West Edmonton shopping trip is an endurance event in itself!
Brain food
For the culture vultures…
Head on down to the Royal Alberta Museum to update yourself on some natural history. Visit Fort Edmonton Park to experience Canada’s largest living history museum – in the summer it’s staffed by costumed historical interpreters, making for an unusual and interesting experience.
But FISE comes first, of course! See you at Louise McKinney Park from 12–15 July.
