BMX Freestyle Park qualification day !
An awesome day of action at the Sud De France Arena for the first qualification contests in the Men and Womens BMX Park. There is a LOT at stake for these riders as this event counts towards qualifying their country for the Tokyo Olympics, not to mention the chance to win the coveted Rainbow Jersey and the bragging rights of being the “ 2021 UCI BMX Freestyle Park World Champion.”
With the qualification period officially ending on June 8 for the BMX Freestyle Park, riders will take this very last opportunity to get points, and thus try to ensure their nation participates in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games postponed until this summer.
THE AUSTRALIA / USA DUEL IN THE MEN’S FREESTYLE
Since the opening of the qualification process in 2018, Australia and the USA have continually battled for pole position. Today these two nations are perfectly equal (12,890 points each), and have this last opportunity to take first place and qualify not one, but two riders for the Olympics. The Australians Brandon Loupos and Logan Martin took the top of the podium at the last UCI Urban Cycling World Championships in Chengdu in 2019, but they were closely followed by the American duo Nick Bruce and Justin Dowell so it really is anyone's game!
BMX Park Women Qualification - An All American Top 3!
20 athletes from 8 Nations took part in this contest competing for 12 places in the Final. The level was insane and you could tell all the ladies had been really putting in the hours training. Hannah Roberts brought her signature big tricks and can feel confident going into the finals as the top place qualifier. Her American team mate Perris was close behind in second place, her style and height cruising the Park is incredible. Chelsea Wolfe finished off the top 3, with a super impressive display of bike control and tricks, she will definitely be one to watch in the final. Team GB’s Charlotte Worthington came in 4th and Lara Lessmann from Germany in 5th.
