31 May 2025 18:13

Local athlete, Anthony Jeanjean, was unable to defend his title against the American, who was consistent throughout the week and won the competition with power from the beginning.

Once again, an exceptional lineup of riders was present in Montpellier for the first round of the UCI BMX Freestyle Park World Cup of the season.

Throughout the week, the banks of the Lez River saw the biggest names in the discipline, including numerous Olympians: Logan Martin, Jose Torres Gil, Rimu Nakamura, and Anthony Jeanjean, to name a few.

Twelve riders representing six countries lined up for this final. While some are regulars at this prestigious event, such as Logan Martin and Nick Bruce, team GB brought some new faces to the weekend's unmissable competition.

Local rider Anthony Jeanjean was the crowd favorite, but young American Marcus Christopher dominated every stage of the competition and emerged as the weekend's favorite.

What did we witness during this final?

In the first heat, Dylan Hessey was the first rider to complete his run and set the bar high with a score of 91.40. The British rider, with his great range, performed a variety of tricks throughout his run, which culminated in a superb double flair. In his second run, Hessey improved his score further with a score of 93.00 and led the competition until the first.

The reigning champion and the only French rider competing in this final, Anthony Jeanjean, was highly anticipated by the crowd, who gave him a warm and transcendent welcome. While British rider Dylan Hessey had dominated the competition from the start, Anthony, who finished second in the qualifiers, established himself as the new leader after a first run scored 94.10. Although he increased his score to 94.86 on his second run, it wasn't enough to overtake Marcus Christopher, who dominated the week of competition.

The FISE Montpellier has a new champion in Marcus Christopher, his power, his use of the park, his tricks made the difference throughout the weekend against some of the toughest competition.

An ever-higher standard at FISE, legends who are still present, new faces, and ever-more complex tricks. This first UCI BMX Freestyle Park World Cup round promises a very close season.
