Interview with Simon, speaker and president of the Basic BMX association.
Hello Simon, could you introduce yourself ?
Hello everyone, I am Simon Uguen, an extreme sports enthusiast since 6 years, starting after randomly watching the Xgames on TV !
I have paid myself for my first bike working with my father and I started to ride BMX around the age of 10, I was actually one of the first in France.
Then I quit to skate during 7 years. After many sprained ankles, I started to ride BMX again !
With my friend Corentin Martin, we created an association to give BMX lessons to kids in Clapiers (34). It's been 8 years now. The first year we had 10 littles ones, then 15, then 40 now !
The riders committee represents the Basic BMX team, we are about 20 persons this year.
Did you enter competitions before ?
I was a trainee at FISE with Vincent Guirot, who really involved me, we did a stop in Saintes Marie de la Mer. Every time I wouldn't announce BMX, I was entering amateur competitions.
And what about the introductions today ?
We had 2 hours introductions today from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm and we'll have more tomorrow.
This morning, we had quite a lot of kids but they were so cute that we didn't think twice about taking everyone in ! We simply gave them a real lesson. By the end, some of them could ride down the wedges, that was nice to see !
They all left with small presents : a FISE poster, a Le Havre key holder and a sticker pack.
