Roller Freestyle gets heated in the sun

26 May 2022 19:59

After a high-level qualification round yesterday, things were bound to get even crazier in the semi-finals! 24 riders were competing on the Freestyle Park 2, and needless to say, they pushed the level even higher to get a chance to join the finals tomorrow.

As usual, the French competitors brought their contest experience to the table, with Nicolas Servy and Roman Abrate connecting great lines from one end of the park to the other, the latter even lacing an incredible 1260 to start off his second run, all for the joy of an ecstatic crowd. They will be joined by Japanese legend Takeshi Yasutoko and Australia’s very own CJ Wellsmore in the finals. Both laced some of the most creative runs we have seen in the contest so far and left a strong impression on the spectators.

The riders qualifying in the top spots were Julien Cudot in third, as he laced another run full of controlled bangers, with the young Korean prodigy Jay Yoon in second place, proving once again his style and technicality are (almost) impossible to match. In the top spot, however, we saw another high-flying performance give Diako Diaby the points he needed. He silenced everyone with his speed, amplitude, and flawless lines, enough to land himself in the top position today… But will it be enough to win tomorrow? We can’t wait to see the finals, which promise to be some of the very best we’ve had in Montpellier!

That’s it, but that’s not all for Roller Freestyle: on a day packed with action, now comes the time to see the women bring their own flavor to the course! With some big names like Mery Munoz and a new generation of riders coming up with banger tricks, this is going to be an exciting one to watch!
