Germany’s BMXer Lara Lessman takes the gold in Budapest

With eight riders qualified for the Women’s UCI Freestyle BMX Final, a calculated and technical performance from 17-year old Lara Lessman cemented her with the gold in Budapest.

Two different technical and consistent runs with smooth no-foot can-cans, one-footed wall plants and a crankflip/barspin scored the German an 84, placing her in 1st position.

“Today’s event was special,” said Lara. “I’d never ridden with so many women together like this event - nine riders from 8 different countries. The atmosphere was very good and the weather was perfect so what more could you ask for.”

Swiss rider Nikita Duccaroz linked together two creative lines, including a gorgeous one foot x-up to can-can and a backflip over the launch box, placing her second on the podium. Last year’s overall champion Hannah Roberts went big on the course, landing her signature flares on quarter pipes, but came up short in both runs, bumping her down to third place.

An incredible showing from all of the women riders here in Budapest, who will now prepare for the third world tour stop in Edmonton, Alberta Canada.
