Plot twists and upsets on the Freestyle Park
The sky has cleared and the temperature has risen again this afternoon, so that we can all enjoy this last day of FISE in the heat of Montpellier! The Freestyle Park is where it's at, for the Scooter Pro Men finals, which are also going to be boiling hot, and the public made no mistake about it: it's packed on both sides of the Lez. So we recommend sun cream and regular hydration to enjoy the show to the fullest!
It's a classic format of two 45-second runs (the best of the two sets the score) that will see the ten qualified riders perform one after the other on the Park.
And the show kicked off right from the start with Britain's Calum Connor, who despite qualifying in last place, struck a blow with a monstrous first run. Dropping from the safety barrier and sending a huge transfer, he also landed a cashroll flying over the box in the wrong direction, before coming back the other way with a 720 cashroll. His 91.44 score instantly put pressure on all the competitors.!
To add a little more suspense, his compatriot Jayden Sharman hit his head on a bad fall on the first run, and found himself forced to give it his all on the second. Not that he was intimidated, as his triple whip backflip and double flair at the end of the run earned him second place!
But it was the home-grown Estéban Clot who upset all predictions in these finals: he hadn't particularly excelled in the qualifying rounds or the semi-finals, so it would appear that he was saving himself for this Sunday! He started with a huge transfer over the rainbow, followed by a super-clean run with a cashroll on the step-down, an alley-oop flair with a barspin in between, and a downside heelflip before finishing with a double flair of his own, enough to have everyone on their feet and cheering!
A first victory on his home turf for the man who matured with each stop on the FISE circuit, and a fine reward for the steady progress of a young man who is asserting himself as a true star in his discipline. And since he's keen to win many more... we can't wait for his return at FISE 2025!
