Young riders are taking over the international podium 🚀
It’s still morning here in Shanghai, yet the temperature is steadily rising on the banks of the Huang Pu River with our first finals on the Freestyle Park. For this Roller Freestyle World Cup, the top 8 women riders who qualified yesterday were ready to bring the heat indeed, with two 50-second runs each and a chance to take home the win with their best score.
Two well-known faces here at FISE, the Spaniard Carla Martin and Armelle Tisler from France used their experience to offer clean runs performed all through the park, with some big spins and a misty flip for Carla, and some technical grinds for Armelle, such as an excellent backside torque on the central box to start her second run. They end up in 5th and 4th place, respectively.
But today, the podium fully belonged to the upcoming talents Asia has to offer.
Young sensation Han Qimuge came from the capital city of Beijing and wowed the local crowd with a beautiful combination of spins all around the course, thus taking home the bronze medal. After a couple of falls ruined her first run, Jang Seoa from South Korea proved once again she is a force to be reckoned with, putting together a near-perfect second run and securing second place despite the pressure.
Yet the gold medal belonged to no one but the Japanese prodigy Mei Myoga, who maintained her composure with perfectly executed grinds like her sweatstance on the box or 360 top soul on the coping, as well as flawless flips and spins all over the park. A very complete performance that left no room for doubt, and thus concludes this Friday morning in Shanghai.
We have a lot more events happening all through the weekend though, so make sure to stay tuned and follow all the action here at FISE: it’s going to be hot, indeed!
